Clean Start is truly unique in both its design and material composition. It weighs 300 pounds and measures 2 feet wide by 6 feet high. The flex plate (large round gear looking thing) is copper plated and houses nine hand crafted custom beveled mirrors. Each mirror was constructed using a "blind" beveled technique. Another brass plated flex plate and fixed caliper disc (rotor) act as the base of the Clean Start stand. The copper plated bell housing contains three free formed glass sculptured discs. Each were hand crafted to interact with the curved glass giving the piece the illusion of water being poured from the brass plated cup (a Lincoln hubcap). The addition of neon lighting to these elements creates an unusual effect. |

As you look at the water, notice how the blue light travels through the glass to the end of the cup. A translucent onyx marble pedestal offers a base support and is illuminated using architect white neon light. Finally the finishing touches were added to include an antique 1922 bar of soap, Battenberg towellet and hand crafted floral arrangement to adorn the top. Together, the diversity of materials offers this piece the grace and elegance of an antique wash basin of years past. |

The Clean Start parts are also unique. The bell housing and flex plates originate from Ford's "Classic 289 Powerhouse" small block engine. Introduced in the early 60's, this proved to be one of Ford's most popular performance enhanced engines. The flex plates are part of the transmission system and provide the means to start the motor. Flex plates are used only on automatic transmissions while flywheels are used on standard transmissions.Clean Start was truly a pleasure to construct. The parts lent themselves in such a way that it became almost apparent to me (as someone who doesn't like to get their hands greasy) that this piece should appear as you see it. Clean Start lends itself to all the mechanic technicians who toil everyday as finely trained surgeons delicately operating to create new what perhaps may have passed on into another dimension. To all the busted knuckles out there...keep your act clean. |
